Mexico’s Measurement & Updating Measure (UMA)

The Measurement & Updating Unit in Mexico, UMA, because of its name in Spanish (Unidad de Medida y Actualización), is the economic reference to determine the amount of the payments for obligations foreseen in the laws, e.g., fines and penalties. UMA was created in 2016 to detach Mexico’s minimum wage from legal obligations and, therefore, be able to increase the minimum wage without affecting the economy.
