Mexico’s Measurement & Updating Measure (UMA)
The Measurement & Updating Unit in Mexico, UMA, because of its name in Spanish (Unidad de Medida y Actualizaciรณn), is the economic reference to determine the payment amount for obligations foreseen in the laws, e.g., fines and penalties. UMA was created in 2016 to detach Mexico’s minimum wage from legal obligations and, therefore, be able to increase the minimum wage without affecting the economy.
