Article 30 of the Mexican Political Constitution

Mexican nationality is acquired by birth or by naturalization.

A) ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Are Mexican by birth:

  1. ย Those born in the territory of the Republic, regardless of the nationality of their parents.
  2. ย Those born abroad, children of Mexican parents, of a Mexican mother or of a Mexican father;

  3. Those born abroad, children of Mexican parents by naturalization, of a Mexican father by naturalization, or of a Mexican mother by naturalization, and

  4. Those born on board Mexican vessels or aircraft, whether warships or merchant vessels.

B) ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย They are Mexicans by naturalization:

  1. Foreigners who obtain a letter of naturalization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. A foreign man or woman who marries a Mexican man or woman, who has or establishes his or her domicile within the national territory and meets the other requirements established by law.
